“This project is to connect descendants from the surnames Baillet, Balliet, Baliet, Balyeat, Bolyard, Polyard, Polliard, Pollard, and allied surnames descended from three branches of the Huguenot Baillet family. Paulus Balliet (1717-1777) emigrated from Alsace, France to Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania in 1738. Joseph Balliet (1729-1804) settled in Heidelberg Township, Pennsylvania in 1749. Johannes “John” Balliet (1746-1831) with his family was the first white settler in Sugar Loaf Valley, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania in 1784. Descendants of this these families settled mainly in Pennsylvania and them moved westward to W. VA, KY, OH, IN, and points beyond.”
