ABOUT VOLHYNIA: Volhynia was a shifting region that overlapped a large part of present-day western Ukraine and smaller sections of extreme southeastern Poland and southwestern Belarus, and was formerly part of both Russia and Poland. It often appears on our ancestors’ immigration documents, ship manifests, etc., using many different spellings: Volhynia/Volin/Vohlin/װאָלין/Wołyń/Воли́нь/Волы́нь/Wolhynien.
