Ancestry just solved a mystery for me.
My entire life, my pinky toe — which my favorite ex says God called an afterthought — has… what I thought was… suffered a split. But it wasn’t that exactly. Now I know tis a second toenail! Artifact of Dew Claw, my old Native American influenced DNA tells me… but their company says it’s unlikely to appear so it’s RECESSIVE DOUBLED if appearing.

Confirming presence of Double Toenail on Pinky Toe that appears intermittently on both feet simultaneously typically — noting the issue is tiny and unless you are my husband or someone giving me a pedicure one would be unlikely to notice.

As for painless… not exactly. It presents and feels like a deep sharp hangnail that is hard to remove and makes the idea of wearing socks, closed to shoes, or boots less than fun. It’s not debilitating but definitely requires additional medical triage on extraction.
Clipping the second nail short and filed to nothing significant is the preferred treatment. It’s easier to tend after soaking in Epsom Salt Water (warm).
After clipping and filing or removal of nail shards with tweezers, Hydrogen Peroxide to keep the would clean and Pain Relieving Neosporin Ointment applied soothes the area.
Several times per year the feature appears and needs tending.
Side note: it would be interesting to see if those of us with the feature also have additional prongs on the interior of our molars or large twists in our incisors.
