Feeling purposeless in retirement? Whether you are an Agent, an Academician, a Homemaker, or some other form of entity used to being involved with and needed by a person, peer group, or organization stepping away from a position (rather than down) can be a medically confusing social time.
What happens to a body groomed to please people once there’s no one around? Where does all the motivation to get up and go go go after everyone and possibly everything you ever liked or loved has technically switched to the status of WENT?
Here’s the only data I have amassed thus far about the healthiest ways I have personally found to Quasi Galt — shared from my Home Office running a Think Tank on Lowe’s Island in Sterling, Virginia.
My research suggests I:
- Enjoy my time with pets and spouse.
- I make my private environment comfortable for myself and my mate including food and atmosphere.
- I make my yard a place to admire; birds and squirrels always welcome, lots of varied kinds of birdseed and pet friendly birdwatching opportunities, nutrition for deer always around, remember to set food scraps out for the foxes.
- I work on my Ancestral Cryptography project.
- I research my own ancestry and share my notes unedited for use by future Historians and Forensic Research.
- I draw.
- I paint.
- I exercise in short bursts regularly throughout the day and do something physically active at least once or more per week.
- I stretch more throughout the day as well as strive to remember to adjust my posture and to do something to improve my circulation regularly.
- I remember to do things for myself like take a nap if I feel like I need a rest, to drink more fluids, to eat smaller portions and more often with more protein and less sugar in my gluten free diet lifestyle, to get myself into water for a swim or steam or a long comfortable soak when I feel the need, to dress for comfort as well as fun the rest of my natural born life… as well as remember to take better care overall of myself including my appearance * and health.
Note * I am an INTP Full Frontal Fiona whose idea of taking care of my appearance is likely to vary wildly in concept from anyone interested in Somatic Narcissism or other forms of self v other rather than self improvement as motive. I was also retired from the Military extremely dangerous at the age of 3 before Roger Stone got ahold of my files.
Imagine that — REACTIVATED.
As for the rest… I dunno.
