Kae Davis here — former Exotic Car Examiner and Top Ten Examiner Writer of all things Hollywood Culture, Green Celebrity News, and Celebrity Scandals related. This week I took a used vehicle for a test drive that I loved the shape and size as well as the appointments but had to say no to for ride quality and because the seats in the EASY edition are fabric (not leather).
Fiat makes a lively car. They are fun to drive and easy to park.
Their SUV model 500X is the right size for a senior couple or single adult who wants a peppy vehicle that’s not likely to be difficult spotting in a parking lot.
The one we drove had an immaculate interior. She had XM Radio in an easy to read dashboard navigation screen.
The size of the car and configuration in seating meets my needs as a 5’5″ ish woman. With a seat adjustment it’s also suitable for my 6’1″-6’2″ husband.
It would be comfortable for short commutes (in my opinion). However, we were there looking for a car for long drives that we could take pleasure driving from the DC Metro area north to New England, then south through the mountains down to leave in our garage at our place in the Southern Ozarks.
Road noise was high on the pretty beastie. She had been driven by a diplomat as the sole owner and clearly *ahem* the vehicle had encountered some serious Urban Warfare type of damage.
We declined to purchase the vehicle as price point was three k over where valid money would be to do a complete restoration of the cycle while parts are still readily available for her.
She’s a great car for an easy driver [the model], but fabric seats wear out and show dirt much easier. As such, no leather plus known mechanical issues with the transmission (plus electrical gremlins and lots of plastic body parts like the bonnet that cannot be bondo’d or pulled out by a Dent Doctor guy) makes this potential investment grade auto a no go for us no matter how low the price.
Sorry FIAT.
I still adore you.
I sold my Fiat 500 Turbo edition in metallic gray with lipstick red interior and black piano detailing during the pandemic when we moved ourselves from Florida up to Baltimore.
In Baltimore, potholes are bigger than Fiats. The car would have cost too much to keep where we lived four blocks from the Inner Harbor than she was worth based on parking and replacing cracked rims.
I have missed her every day since. But Carmax offered to buy it at a price it was simply not fiscally prudent at that time of our life to turn down.
Feeling nostalgic and looking for something interesting to use as a daily driver for pleasure drives only and short drives to pool and grocery, the first car we looked at was obviously Fiat thinking… brand loyalty.
Fiat? Dudes…
LOOK AT CRGO.
Build me a microbus that fits a couple and a dog and a cat with kitty area can hold small pet with litter pan or becomes extra storage area for traveling.
Sell that pet friendly feature as a package addition an include a place to clip the dog on a bumper if Tailgating as well as an off hatchback extendable awning, a mini fridge accessible by driver and front passenger, a passenger seat that lies all the way back and makes a sleeping area, enough space for a rear seat that folds flat into a double sided leather couch mattress with seatbelts plus pet clips for pet safety, and in floor storage for travel essentials for emergency use and road trip camping supplies like a tent that converts off back and offers additional screened door pet friendly “sleep inside on the outside” screened door porch type pop out side door camper style options.
I still love you. But the Fiat 500X EASY is making it just a little bit harder for me.
