Around the Heather’s Edge Ireland Wide. At its core this is a localized group based in County Tyrone. However, our Surname Study ancestor project has generated interest from across Ireland and abroad and we are happy to include those whose ancestors are known to have came from Ireland. Geographically core members of the group are linked to an area known historically as ‘The Heather’s Edge’ encompassing but not limited to the parish of Killeeshil old and new, Donaghmore, Castlecaulfield, Cappagh, Pomeroy, Carrickmore, Dunmoyle, Dungannon upper, lower and middle, Galbally, Ballygawley and its environs. When joining please note the County, Townlands and Surnames you are researching if possible. We can only answer questions about our own group. The hosts of their program will have to assist you with any ancestral verifications of your own DNA. If you do match their terms for inclusion, we recommend that you add your own GED kit match number for inclusion in the Ancestry Preservation Project helping to solve cold cases in health and for the medical welfare of all.
I can, however, confirm that my inclusion in the group is based on confirmed DNA matches to the McCoy Family who harken from Ireland in County Tyrone. I can also vouch that my early interactions with the group house found them incredibly helpful and nice. As such, if you are a cousin through this confirmed Direct Line, seek them out. The group Around the Heather’s Edge is indeed a lovely ancestry find.
An additional sidenote: I am also DNA confirmed McCoy to have married a Hatfield.
